CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CVS Health Foundation is launching a new Health Zone in Charlotte with a $2.24 million investment aimed at increasing access to health care, nutritious food, and support for chronic conditions in the city’s Historic West End.

The funding will support the Westside Wellness Collab, led by LISC Charlotte, in partnership with Care Ring, Charlotte Community Services Association, and Deep Roots Community Planning Solutions. The initiative aims to make it easier for residents to access primary care, preventive screenings, nutrition support, and other essential services through a coordinated community-based model.

The investment will support mobile health clinics, fresh food distribution, nutrition education, care coordination, and operational support for partner organizations. Services will be based at a central hub at Charlotte CSA and First Baptist Church West, with outreach through mobile clinics and other neighborhood programs.

“Families deserve access to quality care, healthy food and the support networks that make long-term wellness possible,” said Jenny McColloch, president of the CVS Health Foundation. “Our support helps strengthen the Historic West End’s existing network of trusted organizations and gives residents connected care that is accessible, community-centered and designed around their day-to-day needs."

CVS Health stated that the initiative aims to tackle ongoing issues in the community, such as chronic illness, limited access to food, and the needs of an aging population. The partnership’s objectives include lowering preventable hospital visits, enhancing health outcomes like blood pressure and BMI, increasing access to preventive care, and reducing food insecurity.

“We’re proud to have helped secure this transformative investment from the CVS Health Foundation and grateful for their partnership in advancing health and well-being in the Historic West End,” said Ralphine Caldwell, senior executive director of LISC Charlotte.

The Charlotte Health Zone expands CVS Health’s overall presence in North Carolina, where the company runs over 360 locations and states it continues to invest in community health, housing, and economic mobility initiatives across the state.
