WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark Corp. has received mail service pharmacy accreditation from URAC, a health care accrediting organization.
CVS said Monday that the URAC accreditation program for mail service pharmacy evaluates organizational quality standards; customer service, communications and disclosure standards; mail drug management standards; and pharmacy operations standards.
Mail service is typically used by patients who require maintenance medications for chronic conditions and receive their maintenance medications in 90-day supplies, according to CVS.
"CVS Caremark is committed to providing high-quality mail pharmacy services because we recognize that mail is such an important dispensing mechanism in opening access and reducing costs in pharmacy care," Jon Roberts, president of CVS Caremark’s pharmacy benefit management business, said in a statement. "Mail service pharmacy also helps us to encourage better medication adherence, which is a critical factor in helping patients on their path to better health."
Washington, D.C.-based URAC establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
"We applaud CVS Caremark on achieving URAC Mail Service Pharmacy accreditation," stated William Vandervennet, URAC’s chief operating officer. "In today’s health care market, URAC accreditation provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality health care."
Earlier this month, CVS announced that it received URAC accreditation for its specialty pharmacy.
