CVS Health has made the 2016 Fast Company “50 Most Innovative Companies” list, coming in at No. 3.

The business publication said CVS was among a number of first-timers on the annual list, including pharmaceutical manufacturer Bristol-Myers Squibb, which was No. 17.

According to Fast Company, the list recognizes “leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation.” CVS was honored for “becoming a one-stop health shop.”

Fast Company spotlighted CVS’ focus on health care throughout its businesses, including pharmacy services, in-store clinics and retail. Along with its pharmacies and MinuteClinic health services, CVS offers healthy food choices in its retail business, which no longer includes tobacco products and provides a smoking cessation program, the publication noted. Its drug stores also are introducing hearing and optical services.

Also cited in the “Most Innovative Companies” report were CVS’ technology efforts, including mobile pharmacy apps from its Digital Innovation Lab and its partnership with IBM to use the IT giant’s Watson cognitive computing platform to improve care management for patients with chronic diseases.

“CVS is looking to grow its customer base with extra services that explode traditional expectations,” Fast Company wrote.
