CVS offers ‘Send to Card’ digital option for rewards

CVS/pharmacy is enabling customers to digitally send the savings from e-mail coupons to their ExtraCare Rewards Program cards.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy is enabling customers to digitally send the savings from e-mail coupons to their ExtraCare Rewards Program cards.

The drug store chain said Tuesday that it has launched launch the "Send to Card" digital savings option, a new feature that gives cardholders the ability to send select ExtraCare coupons received by e-mail directly to their ExtraCare card.

To use the feature, cardholders sign up for ExtraCare e-mails at cvs.com/extracareemail and, once enrolled, will get personalized offers to use when shopping at CVS/pharmacy. When receiving the e-mail offers, customers will have the option to "Send to Printer" and bring the coupon with them to the store to redeem or "Send to Card" to send it directly to their ExtraCare card for automatic redemption to realize instant savings when scanning their card at the register during checkout.

CVS/pharmacy noted that the Send to Card feature gives customers the choice to receive paperless savings and makes it easier for shoppers who forget coupons at home or prefer not to print paper rewards.

"Our goal is to offer all 67 million ExtraCare cardholders the choice of how they personally want to engage with our program to receive offers and rewards at CVS/pharmacy," Melissa Studzinski, vice president of customer relationship management for CVS/pharmacy, said in a statement. "We encourage all of our cardholders to sign up for ExtraCare e-mails to take advantage of this new, easy way to save while shopping at CVS/pharmacy."

Last month, CVS/pharmacy kicked off a campaign to make sure that ExtraCare members don’t overlook the ExtraBucks rewards they’ve earned through the customer loyalty program.  Called "MoneyTrashers," the effort leveraged the CVS website and its Facebook and Twitter pages to reach out to customers who are "trashing their money" by not doing simple things such as checking their store receipts for ExtraBucks rewards before tossing them in the trash or redeeming special coupons sent by e-mail and at in-store coupon centers.

As part of the campaign, CVS also unveiled a new look for the ExtraBucks rewards receipt. The more eye-catching design sports larger print to get customers’ attention so they take notice of their rewards, the retailer said.
