WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Following a successful pilot, CVS Pharmacy has made its new CVS Pay mobile payment service available across the country.
CVS Health said Wednesday that CVS Pay is accessible to all users of the CVS Pharmacy mobile app, including for iOS and Android mobile devices. The service works with all major credit cards (inlcuding MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express) and debit cards, as well as with Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account cards.
CVS noted that CVS Pay works in CVS Pharmacy drug stores but is not yet available at CVS Pharmacy departments in Target stores.
“We know that our customers lead busy lives, so our digital efforts are focused on making it easier for them to do simple but important things like picking up prescriptions. That’s why we are thrilled to launch CVS Pay to CVS Pharmacy app users nationwide,” Brian Tilzer, senior vice president and chief digital officer at CVS Health, said in a statement. “For our customers, CVS Pay offers more than just a payment solution. It’s a seamless, quick and easy user experience that makes picking up prescriptions and shopping at CVS Pharmacy even more convenient.”
CVS Pay was announced in August as a pilot program in the New York metropolitan area. CVS Health said the customer response “exceeded expectations” in terms of adoption of the app and consumer feedback.
With CVS Pay, customers can pay for purchases plus refill, manage and arrange for pickup of prescriptions all within the free CVS mobile app. CVS ExtraCare members also can link their ard with CVS Pay, enabling them to process all ExtraCare deals, earn new rewards and handle payment for the transaction via a single scan at checkout. Customers also can use CVS Pay at the drive-through window, where they share a pickup number within the CVS app.
In stores, CVS associates scan the barcode from the customer’s CVS app, ring up the purchases, let the customer select a payment method from those stored in the app, and then process the payment. Verifications for prescriptions and payment occur directly in the app. When the transaction is completed, the customer will receive a confirmation of payment in the app.
