Discount Drug Mart fundraiser honors fallen and injured police

The donation reflects the generosity of the chain’s customers, who responded to a fundraising campaign at its Lorain County stores.

LORAIN, Ohio — Discount Drug Mart presented a $21,188 check to the Lorain Police Officers Charitable Foundation this month in honor of three officers ambushed in the city in July.

The donation reflects the generosity of the chain’s customers, who responded to a fundraising campaign at its Lorain County stores.

During the ambush, Officer Phillip Wagner lost his life, and Officers Peter Gale and Brent Payne were injured. The funds raised will directly support the families and recovery of those affected.

Lorain, where Discount Drug Mart was founded, is "a special place for us," said Steve Ferris, the company's government and public affairs director. "When tragedy struck Lorain, it struck us that we needed to step up and do something."
