The Life Is Why campaign was undertaken to further the association's efforts to drive critical research, improve care and empower a Nation of Lifesavers.

MEDINA, Ohio — In honor of American Heart Month, Discount Drug Mart
customers raised $52,170.13 for the American Heart Association’s Life Is Why campaign to further the organization’s efforts to drive critical research, improve care and empower a Nation of Lifesavers.

From February 9-22, Discount Drug Mart, a family run, employee-owned company invited customers to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar or to make a specific donation when checking out. The chain donated 100% of all donations to the American Heart Association. All 79 Discount Drug Mart stores across Ohio participated in the campaign.

“For more than 100 years, the American Heart Association has provided critical and groundbreaking heart research. Tragically, heart disease claims a life every 34
seconds,” said Don Boodjeh, Chief Executive Officer of Discount Drug Mart. “Our
generous and loyal customers consistently rise to the occasion to help others. We are grateful for their support of the American Heart Association’s Life Is Why campaign.”

Representatives from Discount Drug Mart — including President John Gans — presented a check to the American Heart Association on March 12 at the Discount Drug Mart location at 13123 Detroit Road in Lakewood.
