MEDINA, Ohio — Thousands of Discount Drug Mart shoppers contributed funds for hurricane relief totaling more than $106,000.

Customers at the Ohio chain's 79 stores gave back the change they would normally get by rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar or donated another amount to the American Red Cross from Oct. 8 - 20. One hundred percent of the money raised will go to families suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

"Because of your generous donations American Red Cross is able to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disaster," the charity said.

"When you see the devastation, you can’t help but want to assist the thousands who are trying to dig out and find some sense of normalcy after losing, in many cases, everything,” Discount Drug Mart CEO Don Boodjeh said at the start of the fund drive. “At Discount Drug Mart, we are all about community, whether it’s here in Ohio or across state lines. We want to help.”

"We are thankful for the partnership that lets us do lifesaving work, said Rachel Stine, executive director of the American Red Cross of Greater Akron and the Mahoning Valley.
