Dollar General broadens digital access with Instacart

Same-day delivery rollout will start at roughly 7,000 stores before expanding to approximately 20,000 locations this fall.

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn — Instacart and Dollar General are teaming up to expand same-day delivery, with plans to make products from approximately 20,000 Dollar General and pOpshelf stores available through the Instacart marketplace this fall.

The companies said the partnership will begin with a pilot involving approximately 7,000 Dollar General and pOpshelf locations in six states in the coming weeks. The service is then expected to expand to stores across 48 states.

Through the Instacart app and website, customers will be able to order from Dollar General’s assortment of food and snacks, household essentials, health and beauty products and other everyday items. Orders will be available for delivery in as little as one hour.

The partnership combines Dollar General’s extensive store network and value-focused assortment with Instacart’s delivery technology and marketplace, giving the retailer another way to reach consumers seeking convenient access to everyday necessities.

“Dollar General’s vast footprint and longstanding commitment to affordability make them an important addition to the Instacart Marketplace,” said Ryan Hamburger, chief commercial officer at Instacart. “As we expand this partnership to approximately 20,000 Dollar General and pOpshelf stores, we’ll help provide customers in communities across the country with even greater access to affordable food and everyday essentials, with the convenience of same-day delivery.”

For Dollar General, the agreement represents another step in broadening the ways customers can shop its stores while maintaining the company’s emphasis on value and convenience.

“At Dollar General, our mission is Serving Others, and we continually look for new ways to provide customers with the value and convenience they count on,” said Tony Rogers, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Dollar General. “Our partnership with Instacart provides another convenient way for customers to access affordable food, household essentials and other products they need while saving them valuable time.”

Dollar General will join more than 2,200 national and local retail banners available through the Instacart marketplace.

The rollout also significantly expands Instacart’s presence in the value retail channel, while giving Dollar General additional digital reach across the communities served by its extensive store network.
