“I feel very excited and fortunate to join such a wonderful company that engages a loyal and passionate customer in an enthusiast category filled with future opportunity,” Miquelon said in a statement. “I am convinced that under [president and chief executive officer] Jill [Soltau]’s leadership and in partnership with the entire Jo-Ann team we will delight our customers, create value for all of our stakeholders and have a lot of fun in the process.”
Miquelon left Walgreens in August 2014 to pursue other opportunities but continued for a time as an adviser to the company as it proceeded with its partnership with Alliance Boots. He joined Walgreens in June 2008 as senior vice president and CFO and was promoted to executive vice president in 2009. In 2012, following his leadership in establishing Walgreens’ partnership with Alliance Boots, he assumed an expanded and global leadership role as international president and joined the board of Alliance Boots.
Among many other achievements at Walgreens, Miquelon played key roles in the establishment of the Walgreens-Alliance Boots partnership with AmerisourceBergen Corp. in 2013 and the acquisitions of Drugstore.com in 2011 and Duane Reade in 2010.
Since working for Walgreens, Miquelon has served as founder and managing director of his own investment and advisory firm, working with private equity firms as well as with several Fortune 500 retailers and various healthcare and children’s education start-ups.
Before joining Walgreens, Miquelon was executive vice president and CFO at Tyson Foods Inc. and, prior to that, served in roles of increasing responsibility at Procter & Gamble Co., including as CFO for the 42-country South East Asia region and then for the 17-country Western Europe Region based in Geneva. In Switzerland, he held the position of general manager and head of finance for Western Europe, a P&G division responsible for 30% of the company’s sales.
“I am thrilled to have an executive of Miquelon’s deep and broad experience join the Jo-Ann team during a transformational time in our brand’s rich history,” Soltau commented. “Miquelon is a highly respected and effective leader with a track record of driving retail-changing strategies. Fueled with a career of significant accomplishments, he will play a key strategic role in creating value for our organization and stakeholders while serving our customers through an exciting shopping experience.”
