WASHINGTON – The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association representing the dietary supplement and functional food industry, is pleased to announce that FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert M. Califf, will address attendees during its Now New Next conference on Wednesday, Oct. 4, via a virtual fireside chat with CRN president & CEO Steve Mister.
This will mark the first time the FDA’s top administrator has directly addressed industry members at a live event since his appointment. Commissioner Califf was sworn in as FDA Commissioner in February 2022 after being nominated by President Biden to head the agency, which has oversight for regulating dietary supplements. During the scheduled 45-minute conversation, Califf is expected to speak on the regulatory landscape, changes in the structure of the Human Foods Program at FDA, and the related implications for the dietary supplement and functional food industry.
“We are delighted that Dr. Califf has agreed to join us and address our members and it is especially meaningful as we celebrate our 50 years of operation,” said Mister. “The industry has grown significantly since we were established in 1973 and, with so many issues challenging us today, this will be an outstanding opportunity for Dr. Califf to discuss how the agency plans to fulfill its regulatory obligation and for our members to share their concerns directly with him.”
Other confirmed speakers include best-selling author Tiffani Bova; Amazon Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Vin Gupta; award-winning journalist and former CNN White House correspondent, John Harwood; inspirational changemaker, Dr. Sammy Ramsey, and trends expert, Paul Zikopoulos.
