NEW YORK — Fera Pharmaceuticals has introduced Sulfacetamide Sodium Ophthalmic Ointment 10%, used to treat superficial ocular infections, including conjunctivitis.

Fera said Tuesday that Sulfacetamide, in ointment form, will be an important addition to physicians’ treatment armamentarium.

"Fera recognized the need to bring Sulfacetamide Ointment to the market," explained David Cobb, vice president of ophthalmics at Fera. "While doctors had access to Sulfacetamide eye drops, ointments have the advantage of maintaining eye contact time longer, particularly in pediatric patients whose tears may inadvertently wash drops out from the eye. In addition, Sulfacetamide ointment is an important treatment adjunct to the solution, especially at nighttime."

Added Fera president Frank DellaFera, "There were other such products available years ago, but their manufacturers decided to discontinue them. We listened to the marketplace and brought it back."
