Free prescription delivery expanded at Rite Aid

Rite Aid Corp. has broadened availability of its free prescription delivery service in the New York metropolitan area.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. has broadened availability of its free prescription delivery service in the New York metropolitan area.

The drug store chain said Monday that more than 400 Rite Aid pharmacies in greater New York, including northern New Jersey, now offer prescription delivery at no charge upon customer request.

Free home or office delivery of prescription is available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST from Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, according to Rite Aid. Prescriptions must be received by 11 a.m. for same-day delivery, and some limitations — including medications requiring refrigeration — may apply, the company said. Prescriptions received after 11 a.m. will be delivered the next business day, except for Fridays, when prescriptions will be delivered on Monday.

"At Rite Aid, we understand that our customers’ time is valuable and that they are looking for convenient services that make their life easier," Robert Thompson, executive vice president of pharmacy at Rite Aid, said in a statement. "Our free prescription delivery service makes it easier than ever for our customers in the New York metro area to get the medicine they need when and where they need it. It also helps ensure that they take their medication as prescribed, which helps to improve their overall health and well-being.”

Rite Aid noted that the expanded free prescription delivery builds on recent pharmacy service enhancements by the chain.

Last September, Rite Aid began enabling customers to receive alerts via text, e-mail or automated phone call to be notified when their prescriptions were ready, as well as to receive pickup and refill reminders. Also last year, members of Rite Aid’s wellness+ customer rewards program were given the added benefit of being able to chat online with a pharmacist 24 hours a day. The company launched Rite Aid Online Care for patients with chronic conditions last November after piloting online pharmacy consultations last spring.

And in 2009, Rite Aid unveiled a round-the-clock prescription refill service through its online store that lets patients pick up their orders at the chain’s stores. That followed the 2008 launch of Rite Aid’s free Automated Courtesy Refill program, which automatically fills a customer’s prescription before it runs out and can contact a customer’s doctor for refills if necessary.
