Gillette Venus makes Jennifer Lopez global ambassador

Women’s shaving brand Gillette Venus has named actress and musician Jennifer Lopez as its first-ever global brand ambassador. The Procter & Gamble Co.

NEW YORK — Women’s shaving brand Gillette Venus has named actress and musician Jennifer Lopez as its first-ever global brand ambassador.

The Procter & Gamble Co. brand said Thursday that Lopez is "now the one and only Venus Goddess" and as a Gillette Venus spokeswoman the superstar celebrity will "inspire women around the world to ‘reveal the goddess in you.’ "

According to P&G, Lopez will star in all elements of the Gillette Venus brand’s 2011 marketing campaign, which includes television and print advertising, public relations, digital and social media, and in-store communications. The media blitz also includes Lopez’s exclusive remake of the iconic Venus song plus the launch of a new philanthropic effort dedicated to empowering women through education, the Venus Goddess Fund for Education.

"The Venus brand empowers women and speaks to the ‘goddess’ in every one of us," Lopez said in a statement. "Every woman is a goddess in her own right when we let our best feminine self shine through. Venus keeps my legs looking beautiful, giving me the confidence to feel just like a goddess."

The Venus Goddess Fund for Education will carry the brand’s "goddess" message by enabling global educational opportunities for women, through partnerships with organizations such as CARE International, the Step Up Women’s Network and Lopez’s Maribel Foundation. Founded by Lopez and her sister Lynda, The Maribel Foundation aims to improve the health and well-being of women and children, including by raising the level of available medical care.

"Jennifer is a Venus Goddess in every sense of the word. Our brand celebrates the multi-dimensionality of women, and no one embodies that more than her," commented Sonia Fife, general manager of Global Venus for P&G Beauty. "You’re not just a goddess in the big moments in life, but in the little ones, too. Jennifer shared much of her personal experience as part of this campaign, and she’s every bit a goddess relaxing at home with her children or performing on stage, showing off those rock star legs."
