SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Timothy Booth has joined H.D. Smith as corporate vice president and head of its Home Healthcare Division (HHC).

The pharmaceutical distributor and health care products wholesaler said this week that Booth brings nearly 20 years of expertise in the pharmaceutical manufacturing, packaging and distribution industries as a corporate executive and counselor.

Most recently, Booth was an independent consultant providing guidance to companies in pharmaceutical industry strategy, operations, operating metrics, product pricing mechanisms, and technical and regulatory information. Before that, H.D. Smith said, he served as president and chief executive officer of PrePak Holdings, a pharmaceutical and consumer care contract packaging company and was as president of McKesson’s RxPak division, where he increased division revenue from $625 million to $1.2 billion.

In his new role, Booth reports to Christopher Smith, president and chief operating officer of H.D. Smith.

"One of the nation’s important health care trends is the shift of patients from hospitals to home where they can advance their rehabilitation and wellness. Meeting our customers’ and patients’ needs requires granular ability to ensure health products reach those in need to advance their care," stated Dale Smith, chairman and CEO of H.D. Smith. "Timothy Booth’s success in managing businesses across multiple health product sectors, and commitment to improving the patient experience and supporting patient care, will enhance our industry-leading customer service and further bolster our HHC offerings."

The distributor noted that home care and the home health care industry are expected to grow by more than 40% during the next five years, with a recent study published by AARP revealing that more than 61 million Americans provided care to an adult family member at some point during 2009.

"H.D. Smith supports the heart of our nation’s health and wellness through its partnerships with community and national pharmacies," Booth commented. "Home health care products are an increasingly important part of patient well-being, and H.D. Smith’s commitment to customer service ensures those products reach patients in need quickly, efficiently and with full support."
