SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Pharmaceutical distributor H.D. Smith has appointed Harvey Tanenbaum as executive vice president.

The company said Monday that with the promotion, Tanenbaum assumes the leadership role in all efforts connected to the pharmacy wholesaler’s metropolitan New York-area expansion.

"Harvey’s applied experience as a retail pharmacist, coupled with his strong passion for the needs of this sector, enables him to champion efforts to provide exceptional customer service and solutions to pharmacies in this region," Dale Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of H. D. Smith, said in a statement

A registered pharmacist in New York and California, Tanenbaum has more than 30 years of experience in the retail and wholesale pharmaceutical industry. H.D. Smith said his prior retail management experience led him to corporate-level development of pharmacy distribution, ordering and credit management systems for the wholesale drug industry.

Tanenbaum also is a former retail pharmacy owner and maintains close ties to the professional community and serves as adviser and consultant to various state pharmacy associations, according to H.D. Smith. He serves in an advisory capacity to organizations such as the Independent Pharmacy Alliance of America, Keystone Pharmacy Alliance, Garden State Pharmacy Owners Association and Academy of Independent Pharmacy.
