ST. LOUIS — Joe McClanathan, president and chief executive officer of Energizer Household Products, is slated to retire next year and be succeeded by vice president Alan Hoskins.

Energizer Holdings Inc. said Friday that plans call for McClanathan to retire in the first half of calendar 2012 and hand the household products unit’s CEO reins to Hoskins, who currently serves as vice president for the Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East regions.

The Energizer Household Products division includes the company’s namesake Energizer and Eveready battery and power solution brands.

"We appreciate Joe McClanathan’s many contributions to Energizer," Energizer CEO Ward Klein said in a statement. "During the past 37 years, Joe has played an integral role in growing the household products division and in making Energizer the No. 1 battery and flashlight company in the world. Over that time, he led major improvements in our household products division sales, marketing, technology and operations."

Klein added that McClanathan also was instrumental at the corporate level in the successful integration of Energizer’s personal care acquisitions into its international household products division structure.

Hoskins has held a variety of leadership positions at Energizer, including as vice president of the North America household products division, vice president of sales and chief customer officer, and vice president of customer business development.

"We are extremely pleased to announce Alan’s appointment as president and chief executive officer of Energizer Household Products," stated Klein. "Having been with Energizer for 29 years, Alan has broad experience in senior leadership positions throughout Energizer. Currently, as vice president, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East, he leads a culturally diverse organization of almost 7,000 commercial and manufacturing colleagues serving over 100 countries in developed and emerging markets and has provided long-term strategic vision to this organization. Under Alan’s leadership, our Asian operations have demonstrated significant growth over the past four years."

Energizer’s personal care offerings span the wet shave, skin care, feminine care and infant care product categories and include such brands as Schick, Wilkinson Sword, Edge, Skintimate, Playtex, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic and Wet Ones.
