NORWALK, Conn. and PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. — IMS Health Inc. has entered an agreement to acquire health care analytics firm SDI Health LLC.
IMS Health and SDI announced the agreement in a joint statement. Terms of the deal, which must clear regulatory and other approvals, weren’t disclosed.
The purchase of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based SDI stands to bolster IMS Health’s position as a provider of prescription drug data and related market information to the pharmacy, pharmaceutical and health care industries.
"The acquisition will enable more robust patient and specialty analytics and will give IMS the ability to provide a broader set of stakeholders with clinically rich insights from all health care channels, including hospitals, providers and pharmacies," stated IMS Health, which has its headquarters in Norwalk, Conn.
SDI provides patient-level data to companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech, retail pharmacy, and medical device sectors.
"The addition of SDI’s complementary information assets and capabilities positions IMS to improve existing offerings, fuel new investments and deliver greater innovation and value to a health care industry that is seeking to drive increased efficiencies as a result of significant, ongoing pressure to reduce costs and expand patient access," IMS Health commented.
