FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Jelly Belly Candy Co. said it’s adding "sweet heat" to its palette of flavors with Tabasco Jelly Belly jelly beans.
The candy company said Thursday that it set out to develop an authentic flavor by sourcing genuine Tabasco seasoning from the 140-year-old recipe made by McIlhenny Co. of Louisiana.
"The Jelly Belly beans will ignite the taste buds with a peppery punch that hot sauce fans crave," Jelly Belly stated. Hot sauce enthusiasts will recognize the pungent taste of red peppers, Avery Island salt and distilled vinegar, coupled with a subtle sweetness undertone from the jelly bean itself, the company said.
Tabasco Jelly Belly jelly beans are coming soon to gourmet food, candy stores, gift stores and major national retailers, the company added.
