CINCINNATI — Kroger Health has achieved a major milestone in its youth prevention and education efforts, announcing that over 250,000 students have completed its Prescription Drug Safety: Know the Truth program since it started.
The program is part of Kroger Health’s broader effort to help people live healthier lives by raising awareness about the safe use, storage, and disposal of prescription medications. It is provided at no cost to participating middle and high schools through a strategic partnership with Everfi, a provider of digital education focused on essential life skills.
Kroger Health has partnered with Everfi since 2018 to deliver a curriculum aimed at encouraging healthy decision-making and reducing the risk of prescription drug misuse among young people. Participation has consistently increased over that time, growing from roughly 700 students in the 2017–18 school year to nearly 65,000 students during the 2024–25 school year.
According to Kroger Health, student assessments done before and after completing the curriculum show increased awareness and readiness. After participating, students say they have more confidence in spotting the warning signs of prescription drug misuse and are more willing to support peers who might be affected.
“By equipping students with the knowledge and skills they can use to make better, healthier decisions, we’re building stronger, more resilient communities,” said Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health. “Kroger Health is proud to play a part in helping young people recognize the warning signs of drug abuse and misuse and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.”

Everfi leadership emphasized the broader importance of the milestone, highlighting how private-sector partnerships contribute to community education and prevention.
“Kroger Health’s dedication to prescription drug safety education demonstrates the powerful impact that’s possible when businesses invest in their communities,” said Ray Martinez, CEO of Everfi. “Reaching 250,000 students is a significant milestone, and we’re proud to work with Kroger Health in equipping young people with the critical knowledge they need to make informed decisions about prescription medications.”
