Kroger opens ‘deli of the future’ in Kentucky

Customers can observe their food being prepared, fostering trust and a perception of freshness.

EDGEWOOD, Ky. – The Cincinnati/Dayton division of Kroger celebrated the grand opening of the new Edgewood Kroger Marketplace today. This new location features the much anticipated "Deli of the Future" which is a new, larger-scale concept featuring an open-kitchen format, offering made-to-order sandwiches, sushi, and sides in a restaurant-like environment with seating to promote customer engagement and transparency in food preparation.

This initiative aims to enhance the customer experience, drive sales of higher-margin prepared foods, and compete with traditional restaurants by blending a neighborhood deli with a restaurant feel.

Key features include:

  • Open-Kitchen Format: Customers can observe their food being prepared, fostering trust and a perception of freshness.
  • Restaurant-Style Experience: The deli offers seating and counter arrangements to create a dining atmosphere, extending store visits.
  • Premium Offerings: The concept includes enhanced options like Murray's Cheese and Private Selection by Snowfox sushi, moving beyond standard deli fare.
  • Made-to-Order Food: Customers can order custom sandwiches with house-roasted meats and a variety of homestyle sides and salads.
  • Increased Scale: The new deli is significantly larger than traditional sections, with the Kentucky location boasting a 6,500-square-foot space.

The Edgewood Kroger Marketplace also features Murray’s Cheese and Private Selection by Snowfox Sushi stations along with apparel, a fuel center, a wine and spirits shop, and expanded grocery selection.
