A month after naming a new chief executive officer and amid reports it is seeking a buyer, Supervalu Inc. has revamped its management team. The supermarket retailer has given Kevin Holt an expanded role as president of Supervalu Retail.

Walgreens set to launch shopper loyalty program

Walgreen Co. plans to roll out its long-awaited customer loyalty program this month and today began enabling shoppers to enroll online. Walgreens said Thursday that the program, called Balance Rewards, has the potential to be the nation’s largest consumer loyalty plan.

Comp-store sales decline at Walgreens

Walgreen Co. reported a decrease in comparable-store sales for August as introductions of lower-priced generic drugs pared pharmacy revenue. Walgreens said Thursday that same-store sales fell 8.2% in August, reflecting a negative impact of 5.1 percentage points from generic drug introductions.
