COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — The cold and flu category continues to grow as people return to work in offices across the country, noted Lou Machin, managing director at Lifelab Health. “There is a trend to over-medicate as office workers are experiencing ‘sick shaming’ due to continuing concerns over COVID variants on the scene,” he pointed out. “With the withdrawal of PPE after being ruled ‘ineffective’ by the FDA, more people are looking for clean and safe and effective alternatives to help them past their colds and coughs. Lifelab has introduced HoneyWorks Plus. It is made with limited ingredients, such as organic honey; dye free; and contains the active dextromethorphan [DM] for cough control.”
He says that social media is creating a movement toward such products as HoneyWorks and HoneyWorks Plus, which contain limited ingredients and are free from harsh chemicals, dyes and coloring.
“Millennials as a whole are looking to do ‘more with less.’ They don’t want all of the nonessential chemicals and ingredients, just the safe and effective ones. HoneyWorks is the only honey-based product line sold at major drug and mass market retailers to be made with 100% U.S. sourced certified organic dark honey. HoneyWorks has no artificial additives, such as dyes, preservatives, artificial flavoring and artificial coloring; is GMO free, gluten and dairy free, tree nut and peanut free, and has zero trans-fat.”
He says that new HoneyWorks Plus is one example of providing the solutions consumers want. “Fewer ingredients and ingredients that are good for you with a safe active ingredient to help with efficacy. As we expand USDA Organic Honeyworks kids syrups and throat sprays to the HoneyWorks Plus line, we will continue to innovate to find the solutions consumers want, based on independent market research.”
Last year Lifelab introduced five SKUs that build on the popularity of its HoneyWorks line of cough syrups made with plant ingredients and USDA-certified organic honey.
“Each is formulated to meet consumer demand for cough and cold remedies that are both ‘clean’ and effective against the nastiest viruses circulating through the fall and winter.”
He continues, “In our focus groups, parents told us they want natural ingredients, not anything that’s bad for themselves and their kids, but too many of the products don’t help them get better. Our cough syrups fill a market gap, with clean ingredients — no food coloring, artificial flavors or preservatives — with just one active ingredient, DM, a USDA-approved cough suppressant that decreases brain activity that triggers the impulse to cough.”
