Mars calls on consumers to ‘reunite’ M&M’s

Mars Inc. has launched a promotion that asks consumers to help it "reunite" its M&M’s "spokescandies.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Mars Inc. has launched a promotion that asks consumers to help it "reunite" its M&M’s "spokescandies."

The company said Monday that the red, blue, orange and green M&M’s "are jetting off to pursue new solo careers," while the yellow M&M "is remaining at M&M’S headquarters" and is asking America to help "Reunite ‘M.’ "

Consumer who offer their help in "getting this chocolate gang back together" will have the chance to win prizes valued at over $1.5 million, including $100,000 to one individual. Through Sept. 15, consumers help the yellow M&M by purchasing select packages of M&M’s chocolate candies and looking for all five characters under the wrapper.

Meanwhile, the yellow M&M is "feverishly posting updates about his departed friends" at Facebook.com/mms, Mars said.

"This is a difficult and sad day for M&M’S," remarked Debra Sandler, chief consumer officer at Mars Chocolate North America. "Our M&M’S spokescandy crew has literally been the face of our brand for many years, and we’re not taking the news of the separation lightly. We’ve initiated a full-fledged Reunite ‘M campaign, and we hope America will join forces to help us get them back together."
