WARREN, Mich. — McKeon Products Inc. has expanded into oral care with the introduction of the LunaGuard, an over-the-counter solution for nighttime teeth grinding, or bruxism.

McKeon, the maker of Mack’s ear plugs and the Airmax breathing improvement device, said LunaGuard provides improved protection against teeth grinding as well as more comfort in use at significant savings for consumers.

Up to 30% of all people experience bruxism, and in the United States an estimated 35%-plus people lack dental coverage, the company noted. What’s more, most dental insurance plans only cover one dental guard for a lifetime. Consumers without coverage or who need a replacement guard can now buy the LunaGuard at sizable savings versus a traditional in office-fitted guard.

Engineering tests show that the LunaGuard provides up to 30% better protection against teeth grinding versus conventional OTC night guards, according to McKeon. The device also is 1.6 mm thin — the thinnest OTC dental protection product available — and as a result it doesn’t impede speaking, drinking or breathing during wear.

The LunaGuard is made of thermoplastic material that enables it to be remolded — up to 20 times if necessary — for a perfect fit, McKeon said. The product’s Diffusix technology uses perforations in the guard to diffuse and absorb grinding forces, providing maximum protection against bruxism.

The company noted that bruxism, in which a person grinds or clenches his or her teeth, typically during sleep, can be frequent and severe enough to lead to damaged teeth, headaches and other health problems.

McKeon said the LunaGuard is sold at Rite Aid, Weis Markets, Kinney Drugs and Discount Drug Mart stores as well as at select Walgreens locations and online at Target.com, Drugstore.com and Walgreens.com.
