SAN FRANCISCO — Donald Knauss and Susan Salka have been named as new independent directors at McKesson Corp.

The pharmaceutical distribution giant said Monday that the appointments of Knauss and Salka are effective Oct. 20.

With their addition, McKesson also is expanding its board of directors from nine to 11 members, 10 of whom are independent.

Knauss has served as chairman and chief executive officer of The Clorox Co. since October 2006. Starting Nov. 20, he will serve as chairman only at Clorox in a newly created executive chairman role, according to McKesson. He was executive vice president of The Coca-Cola Co. and president and chief operating officer of Coca-Cola North America from February 2004 to September 2006. Before that, Knauss held various positions in marketing and sales at PepsiCo and Procter & Gamble Co.

Salka has been president and CEO of AMN Healthcare Services Inc. since 2005, and a director of the company since 2003. She has served in several other executive roles since joining the company in 1990, including as COO, chief financial officer and senior vice president of business development. Also, she is a director of The Campanile Foundation at San Diego State University and was formerly a director of Beckman Coulter Inc., Playtex Products, University of California San Diego’s Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and the BIOCOM Institute.

"Don and Susan are both terrific additions to the McKesson board," stated John Hammergren, chairman and CEO of McKesson. "Don will bring strong international business management and retail expertise, while Susan brings a deep understanding of emerging trends in health care services. The addition of Don and Susan to the board reflects our ongoing commitment to refreshing and strengthening the diversity of our board and maintaining industry-leading governance practices."
