WASHINGTON — The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) has chosen Scott Melville, senior vice president for government affairs at the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA), to succeed Linda Suydam as president.
Suydam is retiring from CHPA after eight years with the trade group. Plans call for Melville to assume his new position on November 1.
“The CHPA board of directors and member companies are excited to welcome Scott to lead our association,” states Christopher DeWold, CHPA chairman and president and chief executive officer of Lil’ Drug Store Products Inc.
“This is an important time for our industry, and Scott’s understanding of the vital role that over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements play in America’s health care system uniquely positions him to lead the association,” he says. “His experience in public policy, coalition-building, and working with government officials and key stakeholders will be invaluable in guiding the industry through the rapidly changing health care environment.”
Melville brings more than 20 years of health care, legislative, regulatory and association management experience to his new role at CHPA.
Prior to joining HDMA in the early 2000s, Melville was an attorney and the head of government relations for the drug company Cephalon Inc. And earlier in his career, he held public policy and government affairs positions at the pharmaceutical manufacturers Hoffmann-La Roche and Sterling Winthrop.
Before being involved in the drug industry, he was legislative counsel and Appropriations Committee associate for Rep. Jerry Lewis (R., Calif.).
