MinuteClinic expands in Missouri

MinuteClinic has opened its first retail health clinics in Springfield, Mo., with more locations to come. The CVS Health subsidiary said Tuesday that two clinics have opened inside CVS/pharmacy stores on the edge of the Missouri State University campus on Elm Street and in Southern Hills.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has opened its first retail health clinics in Springfield, Mo., with more locations to come.

The CVS Health subsidiary said Tuesday that two clinics have opened inside CVS/pharmacy stores on the edge of the Missouri State University campus on Elm Street and in Southern Hills. Missouri State Sen. Jay Wasson and State Rep. Eric Burlison took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the clinic near the university campus.

Plans call for a third MinuteClinic to begin seeing patients in Springfield on Nov. 18 and a fourth location to open its doors in December.

The new clinics join 21 other MinuteClinics in Missouri inside CVS drug stores in the Kansas City and St. Louis metropolitan areas.

“Targeted expansion into markets like Springfield brings high-quality, convenient and affordable health care services to community members,” stated Andrew Sussman, president of MinuteClinic and executive vice president and associate chief medical officer at CVS Health.  “We face a significant shortage in primary care providers, an aging Baby Boomer population and the addition of millions of newly insured patients through the Affordable Care Act. By increasing access to care, MinuteClinic can help support the primary care medical home in Missouri.”

The nation’s largest retail clinic operator, MinuteClinic has more than 1,000 locations in 33 states and the District of Columbia. The company opened its 1,000th clinic last month in Washington, D.C., and it aims to have 1,500 clinics in 35 states by 2017.
