TORONTO — All-natural topical pain reliever MuscleCare, designed to alleviate aching muscles, also can assist in easing the pain associated with diabetes, according to Dr. Chris Oswald, founder and chief executive officer of Active and Innovative Inc., which markets the product.

"After 22 years in practice as a musculoskeletal specialist, it became evident to me that in the over-the-counter nonpharmacological category, none of the national and professional brands had much clinical efficacy in pain, inflammation and muscle spasm reduction, and definitely their use in diabetic pain was moot," Oswald explained.

But MuscleCare — available in regular-strength ice gel, extra-strength ice gel and regular-strength ice spray — is a strong all-natural, scientifically based topical analgesic with key active ingredients and circulation enhancers, he noted.

The product is formulated to provide long-lasting, natural relief from pain, both acute and chronic muscle injury strains/spasm, and joint arthritis. It contains ingredients that work to relax the tissue, increase the flow of healthy blood and nutrients that actually reset the muscle to its normal resting length, and promote healing, according to the company.

"In diabetes, it is critical that patients avoid topicals that mask pain. We formulated a type of magnesium that can be absorbed through the skin into the muscle and joint. This is critical to allow the ‘cross bridges’ that form in muscle contraction to release and immediately improve normal circulation into the damaged area and to remove the inflammation and pain-producing chemicals," Oswald said. "Combine this with glucosamine sulfate, MSM, chondroitin, boswellia, etc., and the tissue is reset in a more normal state. Pain is reduced and function improved."

What’s more, one application can last for days, "not just the five minutes of most O-T-C topicals," added Oswald.

MuscleCare products are available in Duane Reade and Rexall/Pharmaplus drug stores and online at CVS.com and Amazon.com.
