MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy is helping customers prepare for the advent of all-electronic tolling in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
The Miami drug chain said Friday that it has deployed Touch-n-Buy machines at 20 stores to give its shoppers the convenience of purchasing, activating and immediately using transponders for Florida’s SunPass prepaid toll program.
According to Navarro, Miami-Dade is scheduled to switch to all-electronic tolling on Feb. 19.
The red Touch-n-Buy machines in Navarro drug stores enable customers to activate a SunPass for use, as well as pay Florida Department of Transportation documents such as citations and late notices.
"We are excited to offer this unique service for our customers," stated Cristy Leon-Rivero, vice president of marketing at Navarro Discount.
SunPass transponder devices, attached to the inside of a car’s windshield, transmit a radio signal to sensors mounted in the SunPass toll lanes. As drivers pass through the lanes, the toll amount is deducted from their prepaid account.
"As we move to the future of tolling, which is all-electronic, we needed to provide options and immediate availability to motorists so they may enjoy the benefits of toll roads at their convenience," Orlando Torres, deputy director of toll operations for SunPass, said in a statement.
