NCPA testifying at Senate hearing on tackling the opioid crisis

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  – Ronna Hauser, vice president of policy and government affairs operations at the National Community Pharmacists Association, will be testifying at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Tuesday titled, “Tackling the Opioid Crisis: A Whole-of-Government Approach.

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  – Ronna Hauser, vice president of policy and government affairs operations at the National Community Pharmacists Association, will be testifying at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Tuesday titled, “Tackling the Opioid Crisis: A Whole-of-Government Approach.” The hearing will look at the implementation of two pieces of legislation targeting the opioid crisis, the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act and the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act, as well as remaining issues that may need to be addressed. Testifying on behalf of NCPA, Hauser will discuss the pharmacist’s role in helping combat the opioid crisis.

In advance of Tuesday’s hearing, Hauser said, “Community pharmacists have extensive knowledge and experience in caring for patients with chronic pain as well as those in their communities with substance use disorders. The National Community Pharmacists Association and our members are committed to working collaboratively in adopting viable solutions to prevent drug abuse and diversion – including expanding and utilizing the pharmacist’s role when determining new policies to help combat the opioid crisis – and appreciate being invited to testify at this hearing.”
