SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs has unveiled a next-generation store concept at a renovated outlet in north Seattle.

The store, located in Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood, has a new interior design that highlights five new product areas:

• Fresh Beauty, a cosmetics section that includes natural and organic product lines, and has new seating and counters that allow customers to sample products.
• Urban Market, a section that highlights unique and locally produced products, including Washington State wine and an assortment of tea and coffee.
• Sweets and Snacks, a convenience food area with new displays and lighting.
• Wellness Courtyard, a section located adjacent to the store’s pharmacy, that features vitamins, supplements and healthy beverages.
• Creative Print Studio, a photo area that offers same-day service for prints and enlargements, double-sided photo books, calendars, customized greeting cards and other items.

Each section is called out with special lighting, signage and furnishings. The store also features expanded product offerings, according to the company.

“We’re excited and proud to introduce this new look at Roosevelt Square,” says Bartell chairman and chief executive officer George Bartell. “It’s an entirely new floor plan designed to enhance the total shopping experience. We’ll be monitoring it closely in our ongoing effort to better serve our customers.”

The store design was developed with the help of the Bellevue, Wash.-based consulting firm Hartman Group, which specializes in the research, development and execution of consumer-focused concepts for retailers and other businesses.

“Bartell’s engages its customers at the neighborhood level and offers a variety of locally produced products that national chains can’t match,” says Mark Jacobson, creative director at Hartman’s retail design division. “This concept is a result of our close collaboration with Bartell’s and reflects its core values, including a dedication to customer service while offering a large selection of products.”

The 15,475-square-foot store remained open throughout the renovation process.
In other news, Bartell Drugs earlier this month launched the “B” Caring Card Program, a new fund-raising tool for local schools, athletic groups, churches and other nonprofit entities.

Each time the card is scanned at checkout, a percentage of the total bill will be donated to the customer’s designated organization. Bartell Drugs will transfer cardholders’ accumulated contributions directly to the registered organizations monthly. No purchase is required.

“By simply shopping at one of our 58 stores, up to 4% of the purchase amount by ‘B’ Caring Card holders will be contributed to qualifying organizations of their choice,” Bartell says.
