PARSIPPANY, N.J. — GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare has launched a Nicorette mini-sized anti-smoking lozenge, which is designed to dissolve up to three times faster than other stop-smoking lozenges.
GSK said Tuesday that the Nicorette mini Lozenge can double a smoker’s chances of successfully quitting versus a placebo. The new lozenges come in a pocket-size vial, so smokers can have it on hand to help quickly address craving and withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking, according to the company.
Nicorette mini Lozenges are available in two strengths: 2 mg and 4 mg. The 2 mg dose is for smokers who usually have their first cigarette more than 30 minutes after waking up, while the 4 mg dose is for those who typically have their first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking up, GSK explained.
Both the 2 mg and 4 mg dosages come in three-vial packages, with each vial containing 27 lozenges (for 81 total lozenges).
"Smoking is an addiction, and when trying to quit, smokers may need help to address physical nicotine cravings as well as behavior change," addiction expert Dr. Drew Pinsky, known for his syndicated radio talk show, "Loveline," and the VH1 shows, "Celebrity Rehab" and "Sober House," said in a statement released by GSK. "Products like the new Nicorette mini Lozenge can help address the physical symptoms associated with quitting and a new movement we’ve created online will help connect smokers, allowing them to share their stories and support."
Nicorette is launching a "mini Moments" contest on the new Nicorette Facebook Page at www.facebook/nicorette.com. The page is designed to help connect smokers interested in quitting, allowing them to provide each other with support through the process.
The contest offers a chance to win an opportunity to meet Dr. Drew face-to-face as well as a free course of new Nicorette mini Lozenge therapy. Smokers joining the quit smoking movement will also be able to get tips from Dr. Drew on ways to overcome their nicotine addiction while sharing stories with others who are trying to quit, GSK said. To enter the "mini Moments" contest, smokers can submit their most inspiring reason for wanting to quit smoking through the mini Moments Contest application on the Nicorette Facebook Page.
