PRINCETON, N.J. — Novo Nordisk has partnered with celebrity cooks Paula Deen and her sons Bobby and Jamie Deen to launch "Diabetes in a New Light," a national effort to help adults find simple ways to manage type 2 diabetes.

The diabetes care company said Tuesday that the campaign also marks the first time that Paula Deen is sharing her personal diabetes story publicly.
"I was determined to share my positive approach and not let diabetes stand in the way of enjoying my life," Paula Deen, a restaurateur, cookbook author and host of her own television show, said in a statement. "I’m excited to team up with Novo Nordisk on this initiative to show others that managing diabetes does not have to stop you from enjoying the things you love."
The Diabetes in a New Light campaign includes a website, DiabetesinaNewLight.com, that features her diabetes story, diabetes management tips and tools, and the Deens’ diabetes-friendly recipes; the opportunity to sign up for monthly diabetes-friendly recipes from the Deens; and local diabetes cooking events hosted by Bobby Deen or Jamie Deen and a diabetes care expert, who will give an educational presentation on type 2 diabetes.
Other resources include guidance on how diabetes patients can incorporate physical activity into everyday life, manage stress and work with their doctor to find an effective and practical treatment plan.
Novo Nordisk noted that the number of Americans with diabetes totals almost 26 million. of which 90% to 95% have type 2 diabetes.

"We are thrilled that Paula, Bobby and Jamie Deen are part of this initiative that helps people embrace diabetes management in a more positive way."
The company added that Paula Deen takes Victoza, Novo Nordisk’s once-daily, non-insulin injection, as part of her treatment plan.
