DALLAS — OmniSYS LLC has launched a service designed to help pharmacies identify and engage patients eligible for pharmacist-administered vaccines.

OmniSYS Vaccine Management Solution

Using a data-driven rules engine and smart messaging, the Vaccine Management Solution (VMS) creates actionable insights by flagging patients eligible for flu, pneumococcal (Prevnar 13 and Pneumovax 23), pertussis (Tdap) and shingles immunizations, OmniSYS said. The software-as-a-service tool leverages claims data, codifies known patient data points, CDC guidelines and perceived gaps in immunization history.

Pharmacy staff members are informed about patients eligible for vaccinations via smart messaging and real-time alerts integrated into the pharmacy workflow, according to OmniSYS. The identified patients are notified using a multichannel communication approach, including a pharmacy-branded HIPAA-compliant mailing, SMS text, interactive voice recognition, email or live agent calls.

The communication encourages patients to visit the care setting for vaccines, noted OmniSYS, a provider of billing, compliance and patient-adherence solutions for pharmacies and medical equipment suppliers. VMS is pharmacy-system agnostic, doesn’t require additional staffing or changes in the pharmacy workflow, and can be implemented within a few weeks, the company added.

OmniSYS pointed out that the ability to automate clinical rules and engage patients on their own terms is an effective way to boost immunization rates, particularly for seniors. The company reported that only 66% of people over age of 65 received vaccinations in the 2014-2015 flu season., and an estimated 90% of all seasonal flu-related deaths and upward of 50% of seasonal flu-related hospitalizations in the United States occur in people ages 65 and older.
