CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble Co. has announced the several organizational changes in its global beauty care and grooming businesses.

P&G said Tuesday that Charles (Chip) Bergh is retiring from the company after 28 years "to pursue his aspiration to be CEO of a major company." Succeeding him as president of the Global Male Grooming unit is Patrice Louvet, president of Global Prestige.

In addition, P&G has named Joanne Crewes, currently vice president of Global SKII and Female Beauty for the Australasian, ASEAN, India, Japan and Korea market areas, as president of Global Prestige, succeeding Louvet.

Plans call for Louvet and Crewes to start in their new posts on July 1. Charles Bergh is slated to retire from P&G on Sept. 1.

"We have the right team in place to continue growing P&G’s Beauty & Grooming business," Robert McDonald, P&G chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"Gina Drosos, who currently leads our Female Beauty business, Patrice Louvet, Joanne Crewes and their teams have deep, diverse and global experience in beauty. In fact, this new team, incumbent and new leaders alike, has nearly 300 years of collective beauty industry experience," McDonald added. "I am confident we have the right experienced hands on this business and will continue to strengthen P&G’s global leadership in the beauty industry. We wish Chip great success and will build on the strong foundation he has laid in our grooming business over the past six years."

Early last month, P&G announced a leadership change in and realignment of its beauty and grooming division and household care unit.

With the move, Edward Shirley, vice chairman of beauty and grooming, is slated to retire from the company on Jan. 1, 2012, after 33 years service. Until that time, effective July 1, he will serve as vice chairman on special assignment, continuing to report to McDonald.

Also, Dimitri Panayotopoulos, vice chairman of global household care, was appointed vice chairman of global business units, assuming responsibility for the beauty and grooming unit and the household care division. He will continue to report to McDonald.

With the management change, P&G also said it will move the beauty and grooming and the household care global business units under the leadership of Panayotopoulos.
