CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble Co. has teamed up with celebrities in marketing efforts for its Metamucil and Prilosec OTC consumer health care brands.
P&G said Tuesday that "The Dr. Oz Show" has announced the "Do More Than You Think" contest, in which Metamucil is giving consumers the chance to nominate their favorite health and wellness charity to receive a $100,000 donation. The consumer whose entry wins will also receive a trip to New York City to attend a taping of The Dr. Oz Show.
To help get the word out, Metamucil has partnered with long-time Metamucil user and actor Tony Danza, who will also help in selecting the top 10 finalists.
"Metamucil is a huge part of my health regimen and has been for more than 20 years," Danza commented. "I’m thrilled to work with Metamucil and give people everywhere the opportunity to recognize all that their local charities do in helping better the health and wellness of the community."
To enter the Do More Than You Think contest, consumers go online to DoMoreThanYouThink.com and submit a brief entry detailing why their health and wellness charity deserves the donation. The entry period ends Dec. 16.
Metamucil contains psyllium fiber, proven to help lower total and bad LDL cholesterol to promote heart health. Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include seven grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium husk may reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol, P&G reported. One adult dose of Metamucil has at least 2.1 grams of this soluble fiber. Metamucil can also help maintain healthy blood sugar levels as part of a healthy diet, the company added.
On Monday, P&G announced that Prilosec OTC has partnered with celebrity chef and nutritionist Chef LaLa and medical expert Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, who will share health and nutrition tips to help families reduce the chances of heartburn, a common health issue in U.S. Hispanic households.

Chef LaLa is well-known for spotlighting healthy lifestyle tips. Having seen family and friends suffer from frequent heartburn, she’s now working with Prilosec OTC to develop recipe tips that can help minimize the chances of heartburn without compromising flavor, according to P&G.
"With so many fiestas throughout the holiday season, it is easy to enchilarte (overdo the chile), which can exacerbate the symptoms of frequent heartburn," explained Chef LaLa.
