BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons Cos. is expanding the role of Mark Panzer, who joined the company last spring as senior vice president of pharmacy, health and wellness.

The retailer announced early this month that it was also putting Panzer in charge of general merchandise and health and beauty aids.
“Mark’s impact on our operation in 2015 was immediate,” Shane Sampson, executive vice president and chief marketing and merchandising officer at Albertsons, said in a statement. “He brought a wealth of industry experience with him when he joined our team that make him a natural fit to lead GM and H&BA in addition to his current responsibilities.”
Panzer joined Albertsons after an eight-year stint at Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy Inc., where he served as president and chief executive officer. He took a brief hiatus from Pharmaca in 2014 to head Kmart pharmacy for Sears Holdings Corp. Panzer worked at Rite Aid Corp. from 2001 to 2007, first as head of operations and then as chief marketing officer. Panzer’s retail career began four decades ago at Osco Drug stores. He later held management roles at American Drug Stores Inc. and at Albertsons after it acquired American Drug Stores’ parent in 1998.
“Health and wellness reaches well beyond the pharmacy and further into a traditional grocery store,” Panzer said. “As customers move to take more control of their health care, retailers need to pivot quickly to support their diverse needs. Our teams understand their customers’ needs better than anyone else in the business, and by combining our pharmacy, health and wellness, GM, and H&BA teams, we’ll be well positioned to serve our customers across our diverse market areas.”
Albertsons also announced a promotion for Tamara Pattison, who was named senior vice president of digital marketing and e-commerce, with oversight of shopper marketing, digital marketing, e-commerce and customer loyalty programs.
Pattison most recently served the company as group vice president of digital, loyalty and customer analytics. She joined the company in 2006 as director of product management on the e-commerce team at Safeway. In 2013, she took charge of Safeway’s loyalty product and program strategy. She will continue to work out of Albertsons’ offices in Pleasanton, Calif.
Albertsons operates more than 2,200 stores in 36 states and the District of Columbia under 18 banners, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Pavilions and Carrs.
