DURHAM, N.C. — Parata Systems has teamed up with pharmacy business consultancy Pharmacy Development Services (PDS) to launch a medication adherence training program for retail pharmacists.

Called Parata Companion PASS, the program is aimed at community pharmacies that want to grow their business by providing customers with medication compliance-enhancing packaging, Parata said Wednesday.

For the initiative, Parata brings the automation technology and its PASS strip packaging, while PDS brings the business coaching and strategy training to help pharmacists succeed in the adherence space.

The six-week training program comprises an in-person, daylong session at Parata’s corporate headquarters in Durham, N.C., on Sept. 20. Afer the workshop, participants attend four weekly, interactive webinars focused on operations, employee training, marketing tools and strategies. The webinars are complemented by private mentoring calls, and at the end of the program the pharmacists will have built a custom retail adherence program plan that will serve as their guide.

"PDS is the go-to coaching resource for pharmacists trying to grow their businesses profitably," stated Tom Rhoads, chief executive officer of Parata Systems. "It was fitting that we team up to give pharmacists — who have recently purchased, or are interested in purchasing, adherence packaging systems like Parata PASS — the tools they need to maximize their business impact and ensure the safety and well-being of their customers."

Parata PASS packages multiple prescriptions into a strip of individual unit- or multi-dose bags called PASS Packs. The packaging ensures that customers or their caregivers can easily and accurately manage a variety of medications at home.

Each PASS Pack is custom-printed with the customer’s name; day and time of dose; and medication names, strengths and descriptions, along with other details.

"Improving medication adherence is not only an important part of a patient’s health care regime, but it’s also an important part of a pharmacist’s daily job," commented Dan Benamoz, founder and CEO of PDS. "We’re here to make sure pharmacists are armed with the tools they need to effectively integrate compliance-enhancing technology into their business strategies."
