ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo Co. has received final approval from the Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market over-the-counter cetirizine cherry syrup 1 mg/ml.
The OTC and generic pharmaceutical maker said Monday that the cherry-flavored product joins the grape cetirizine syrup in its current product portfolio, giving patients a wider choice of store-brand flavors.
Perrigo said the product will be marketed under store-brand labels and is comparable to McNeil Consumer Healthcare’s Zyrtec Children’s Allergy Syrup, indicated for indoor and outdoor allergy relief.
Plans call for the new product to begin shipping in Perrigo’s fiscal 2011 first quarter. The company reported that brand sales for the Zyrtec products, which includes cherry syrup, were $580 million for the 52 weeks ended July 4.
