BOULDER, Colo. — Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy Inc. founder Barry Perzow is retiring from his position as chairman.

Perzow will continue to serve on the chain’s board of directors.

With a background of running natural grocery stores, Perzow came up with the idea of a pharmacy that would offer traditional prescription medications and alternative remedies. The result was Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, founded in June 2000. He ran the company until May 2005, when he became chairman.

Pharmaca’s board passed a resolution thanking Perzow for his visionary leadership and contributions over the years.

“Barry saw how changing consumer preferences would change the face of drug stores and started Pharmaca to address these consumer needs,” says Pharmaca chief executive officer Mark Panzer. “We will miss his daily input, and we are delighted that he remains on our board.”

Pharmaca currently operates 23 pharmacies in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

“Pharmaca has an exceptional management team in place led by Panzer and a very capable board of directors,” Perzow states. “It’s a good time for me to explore new passions and opportunities that further fulfill my personal goals and lifestyle.”
