ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Pharmacy Plus Network has teamed up with CampDoc.com to provide prepackaged medications to summer camps.

CampDoc.com, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based provider of an electronic health record system for camps, said Tuesday that the Pharmacy Plus Network will supply the camper medications in sealed packages, clearly labeled with the camper’s name and dispensing instructions. Medications will also be shipped directly to camps at no additional cost.

The partnership will accept all major insurance carriers, according to CampDoc.com, a division of DocNetwork LLC.

"Of all the ways that campers can be harmed at camp, medication errors are the most dangerous, but also the most preventable," stated Sam Maddali, chief executive officer of Pharmacy Plus Network, a Ledgewood, N.J.-based group purchasing organization made up of about 100 independent community pharmacies. "We’re excited to be working with CampDoc.com and offer this much needed service to the camp community."

CampDoc.com noted that more than one in four U.S. children and adolescents take prescription drugs on a regular basis, and with the number of medications being prescribed rising, camps are devoting an excessive amount of time organizing, preparing and distributing medications every summer. Processed via the CampDoc.com electronic health record, the prepackaged medications will reduce medication errors and the risk of missed medications or incorrect dosing.

"Our system already integrates technology and camp health care. Offering prepackaged medications furthers our mission of helping camps reduce risk, improve efficiency and maximize safety at their camp," commented Dr. Michael Ambrose, owner and director of CampDoc.com.
