LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix reported sales of $15.7 billion for the second quarter ended June 27, 2026, up 1% from $15.6 billion a year earlier. For the first six months of 2026, sales reached $31.9 billion, a 1.5% increase from $31.4 billion in the prior-year period.
The company said sales growth was tempered by the Medicare Maximum Fair Price (MFP) program, which took effect Jan. 1 and reduced prices on 10 prescription drugs. The pricing changes lowered pharmacy revenue, while broader economic pressures also affected consumer spending.
Comparable-store sales declined 0.5% in the second quarter and 0.3% for the first half, primarily due to the MFP impact and softer consumer spending.
Publix reported net earnings of $1.7 billion for the quarter, up 20.5% from $1.4 billion in the year-ago period. Earnings per share rose to $0.52, compared with $0.42 in 2025.
“I’m grateful for our associates’ commitment to our customers, our communities and each other, especially during this difficult economic time,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy.
Excluding net unrealized gains on equity securities, adjusted net earnings for the quarter totaled $1.1 billion, up 1.7% from $1 billion a year ago. Adjusted earnings per share increased to $0.33, compared with $0.32 in 2025.
For the first six months of 2026, net earnings were $2.5 billion, up 2.7% from $2.4 billion in the same period last year. Earnings per share increased to $0.76, compared with $0.73 in 2025.
On an adjusted basis, excluding unrealized gains on equity securities, net earnings for the first half of both 2026 and 2025 were $2.2 billion. Adjusted earnings per share improved to $0.69 from $0.68.
The results are based on unaudited financial statements filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and available on Publix’s corporate website.
Separately, Publix announced that its stock price decreased from $20.45 to $19.60 per share effective Aug. 1, 2026. Publix stock is privately held and available only to current associates and members of the company’s board of directors.
