PuraMed eyes bigger retail presence for LipiGesic M

PuraMed BioScience Inc. plans to ramp up the retail sales efforts for its LipiGesic M homeopathic migraine headache remedy by targeting another 21,000 retail outlets.

SCHOFIELD, Wis. — PuraMed BioScience Inc. plans to ramp up the retail sales efforts for its LipiGesic M homeopathic migraine headache remedy by targeting another 21,000 retail outlets.

The company said Friday that mass merchandisers such as Walmart and Target; supermarket operators such as Kroger, Safeway and Supervalu; and some "well-known" regional drug chains are among the retailers it’s eyeing for distribution.

Currently, LipiGesic M has distribution in some of the nation’s largest chain drug stores, including Walgreens and CVS/pharmacy. PuraMed said roughly 15,000 stores now stock its LipiGesic M migraine pain relief product.

PuraMed noted that it selected the targeted retailers based on such criteria as cost of entry, geography, demographics and consumer preference.

To support the retail distribution effort, PuraMed also plans a national marketing campaign to promote and broaden availability of LipiGesic M. The company added that published scientific evidence has confirmed LipiGesic M as an effective nonprescription remedy for the treatment of acute migraine pain.

Also upcoming from PuraMed is the launch of LipiGesic H, a remedy for tension-type headaches, and LipiGesic PM, a remedy for insomnia and other sleep disorders.

PuraMed added that the planned marketing campaign, along with financing now in place, will allow the company to develop the launch programs for the additional products and build out its product portfolio in 2013.

A homeopathic treatment, LipiGesic M contains feverfew (pyrethrum parthenium) as its main active ingredient plus ginger, formulated for acute migraine headache relief. According to PuraMed, the product — taken via 3 ml unit-dose dispensers — has been used successfully to treat migraines, hangover symptoms, menstrual headaches and other types of headaches. Unlike tablets, LipiGesic M employs sublingual absorption, further enhanced by the use of a formulation designed to speed absorption and increase the amount of active ingredient absorbed. The result for most users is relief in minutes, according to the company.
