SPARTANBURG, S.C. — QS/1 has released RetrieveRx, a will-call storage and retrieval system aimed at helping pharmacies eliminate the clutter and guesswork of storing and locating filled prescriptions.

The pharmacy automation company said RetrieveRx uses storage bags with color-coded lights to make identification easier. After prescriptions are filled, the medications are assigned and placed into a bag. When the patient picks up a prescription, RetrieveRx sends a signal to the bag that activates the lights to alert the staff where they can find the medications.

Employees can be assigned their own light display combination, eliminating confusion in higher-volume pharmacies with multiple pickup areas, according to QS/1.

"Pharmacy staff members spend a significant amount of time digging through bins looking for prescriptions," explained Tom McLeod, QS/1 vice president of administration and marketing. "Prescriptions may be put in the wrong bin or not collated with other prescriptions for that patient or family members. RetrieveRx enables pharmacy staff to visually see where prescriptions are located, so the pickup process is more efficient."

RetrieveRx integrates with QS/1’s NRx Pharmacy Management System. The pharmacy maintains RetrieveRx completely within NRx, eliminating the need to learn a new system, the company noted.

The storage/retrieval system uses RxMedic prescription bags, which hang on a rack for a more organized store appearance. QS/1 said the bags and handles are made from heavy-duty materials that can handle the rigors of a busy pharmacy.

"We are excited about this new product and the integration with RxMedic," McLeod commented. "It shows our focus to help pharmacies achieve their goals. Increased efficiency reduces cost and makes pharmacies more profitable."
