Rempel named CIO, senior VP at Rite Aid

Rite Aid Corp. has hired information technology veteran Steve Rempel as senior vice president and chief information officer. Rempel will oversee the company’s IT systems, including network infrastructure, telecommunications and data security.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. has hired information technology veteran Steve Rempel as senior vice president and chief information officer.

Rempel will oversee the company’s IT systems, including network infrastructure, telecommunications and data security. He will have responsibility for development and execution of Rite Aid’s IT strategy.

Rempel began his career at Safeway Inc., where he worked for 35 years and held a variety of IT positions.

More recently, he served as president, chief executive officer and CIO at Balance Innovations LLC, a provider of reconciliation and cash management solutions for the retail industry.

“[Rempel’s] vast retail experience will be extremely valuable to Rite Aid as we continue to develop our technology and services platforms and strategies to further strengthen our business operations and enhance the experiences of our valued customers and associates,” said Frank Vitrano, Rite Aid’s chief administrative ­officer.

Rempel earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, and he is receiving his master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University this spring.

Rite Aid, which is the nation’s third-largest drug store chain, operates nearly 4,600 stores located in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
