WASHINGTON — The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) today announced that Phil Daniele, president and CEO of AutoZone, has been elected to serve as chair of the RILA Board. The announcement also includes the addition of five new board members.
Daniele will help guide the association’s strategic priorities and policy agenda.
“Phil’s leadership and deep understanding of the retail landscape make him exceptionally well-suited to serve as board chair,” said Brian Dodge, RILA’s president and chief executive officer. “His commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and workforce development will be invaluable as RILA advances policies that support a competitive and resilient retail sector.”
Daniele, a veteran of more than 30 years at AutoZone, became CEO in 2024, bringing extensive experience in supply chain, merchandising, operations, and commercial support.
“RILA plays a pivotal role in advocating on behalf of the industry to ensure retailers can tackle the operational and public policy challenges they face,” Daniele said. “Now is a critical time for retailers and their customers, and I look forward to the work that we will do at RILA to advocate for certainty and stability for retailers and the consumers who they serve.”
The newly-elected board members are:

- Michael Fiddelke, Incoming Chief Executive Officer, Target

“These leaders represent the breadth and strength of today’s retail industry, from technology and data to health care, grocery, and specialty retail,” said Dodge. “Their experience and insight will help ensure RILA continues to be a strong advocate for retailers, their employees, and the customers they serve.”
RILA’s Board of Directors consists of chief executives and senior leaders from leading retailers and consumer-facing companies across the country. The board guides the association’s strategic direction and is key in shaping RILA’s public policy and advocacy initiatives.
