CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. is enabling members of its wellness+ customer loyalty program to donate their change charities of their choice that support children’s health and well-being.
The drug chain said Monday that through The Rite Aid Foundation’s in-store KidCents program, wellness+ members can designate their change to one of the 204 approved charities on kidcents.com.
To participate, Rite Aid customers can sign into their wellness+ account at kidcents.com and review the profiles of approved KidCents charities. Each profile features information about the charity and its services, as well as stories of those helped by the organization. After customers choose a charity and then make a purchase on their next shopping trip to Rite Aid, the total will be rounded up to the nearest dollar, and their change will be directed to the selected charity.
"We know our customers share our passion when it comes to giving back to the community, and that’s why we created KidCents. By shopping at Rite Aid and rounding up their purchases, our customers can easily make a meaningful difference in the lives of kids right in their own community," Rite Aid president and chief operating officer Ken Martindale said in a statement.
Starting this week, Rite Aid associates nationwide will present $10,000 checks to each of the 204 inaugural KidCents charities, totaling more than $2 million in donations.
Martindale, who also is president of The Rite Aid Foundation, and Michael Wolf, Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, are helping launch the nationwide celebrations on Monday by presenting $10,000 donations to two local nonprofit organizations, Leg Up Farm of Mt. Wolf and Family Support of Central Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. The presentation are being made at the Rite Aid pharmacy at 1137 Market Street in Lemoyne, Pa., near the company’s Camp Hill headquarters. The foundation will provide a total of $250,000 to Pennsylvania nonprofit children’s charities this week.
"Our initial group of charities is just the beginning, as we hope that customers who are already involved with an organization that supports children’s health and well-being will encourage that charity to apply to join KidCents, taking our program to a whole new level, helping even more kids," added Martindale.
KidCents charities are also eligible to earn a Step Up reward. For every $500 a charity raises in contributions via KidCents, it will receive a matching donation of $500 from the program, up to a maximum of $5,000 throughout the giving term.
"As a public health official and as a father, I know how valuable it is for our children and young people to receive the resources they need to have the highest quality of life and health possible," Wolf stated. "KidCents provides an opportunity for people to make small contributions that can create lifelong impacts to the communities they serve."
