CAMP HILL, Pa. — Starting this month, Rite Aid Corp. will host The Skin Cancer Foundation’s annual Road to Healthy Skin Tour.
The drug chain said Thursday that through the tour, also presented by Aveeno, thousands of Americans can receive free full-body skin cancer screenings this spring and summer as a 38-foot, customized RV stops at more than 60 Rite Aid drug stores in 19 states.
According to Rite Aid, the tour draws on the expertise of local dermatologists to perform full-body skin cancer screenings, which The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends receiving annually. Since 2008, the tour has screened more than 10,000 people.
"We’re proud to have sponsored the Road to Healthy Skin Tour every year since its inaugural journey," Robert Thompson, executive vice president of pharmacy at Rite Aid, said in a statement. "These screenings have undoubtedly saved lives through early detection and are a testament to the power of proactive health care."
The three past Road to Health Skin tours have caught 3,700 potential skin cancers and precancers, including some 200 suspected cases of potentially deadly melanoma, Rite Aid reported. Visitors are screened in one of the RV’s two private exam rooms on a first-come, first-served basis. They also can sample sun protection products and learn about skin cancer prevention and early detection.
Plans call for the tour’s RV to visit Rite Aid stores in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania in April; New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan in May; Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado in June; Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon and California in July; California in August; and Louisiana in September.
