WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark Corp. has appointed Jon Roberts as chief operating officer of its pharmacy benefit management business.
The 54-year-old Roberts, who will continue in his current role as executive vice president of pharmacy purchasing, pricing and network relations, will now also oversee the company’s PBM operations, mail service pharmacy and specialty pharmacy.
“Jon is the ideal candidate to fill this newly created role within the PBM,” says Per Lofberg, president of pharmacy benefit management. “His broad base of pharmacy experience will further our mission to continually improve how we do business and look for ways to do it better, more efficiently and at a lower cost.”
Roberts has been with CVS for nearly two decades, serving in a variety of roles during his tenure with the company, including senior vice president of store operations at the company’s retail division and chief information officer for CVS Caremark.
“Jon has spearheaded numerous initiatives over the years that have enhanced our delivery of pharmacy care,” chairman and chief executive officer Tom Ryan says. “I am confident that in this newly expanded role he will support our PBM growth strategy and overall longer-term success.”
Caremark executives say that the company has been landing new business. Lofberg, Caremark’s president, noted recently that the PBM has won $11.1 billion in annualized new business for 2011, which represents $8.7 billion in net new business.
